Handcrafted Christmas Stocking Sewing Workshop

Create a beautiful Christmas stocking made to last year after year. In this festive three-hour session, you will learn a fun ‘stitch and flip’ technique to design and make your own stunning Christmas piece. All materials tools are provided, hot drinks and light refreshments are included.
While the finished stocking looks wonderfully sophisticated, the process itself is highly achievable. You will go away with your very own completed stocking at the end of the session. You need to be able to sew a reasonably straight line and follow a gentle curve, but if you are entirely new to using a sewing machine or feeling less confident, you are warmly invited to a complimentary 30-minute introductory lesson just before the main class begins to get up to speed with using a sewing machine.
The stocking: your unique handcrafted stocking will be approximately 35cm for top to heel and 22 cm from heel to toe. While we have a range of fabulous fabrics, we can’t guarantee the same fabrics will be available as photographed on this page.
Meet your tutor: Rachel
Rachel brings 60 years of sewing, over 25 years of quilting, and 40 years of training experience to her fun and straightforward lessons. Rachel is a member of the Quilter’s Guild and has given talks and taught workshops at their regional meetings. Having exhibited with the London Quilters and Contemporary Textiles London, she regularly enters the Festival Of Quilts, and is currently a member of the London Modern Quilt Guild. Rachel’s quilts reflect her love of colour and designs with clever, waste-reducing techniques. You can check out her designs in her popular QuiltsBySnee Etsy Shop.
Event Details
We will be running the same session three times. Please choose between:
Saturday 14th November 10.30am – 1.30pm (Beginner’s introductory lesson at 10am)
Saturday 21st November 10.30am – 1.30pm (Beginner’s introductory lesson at 10am)
Saturday 12th December 10.30am – 1.30pm (Beginner’s introductory lesson at 10am)
The sewing workshop costs £45.
The session is designed primarily for adults, but we’re happy to welcome younger guests
subject to the following guidelines:
- Ages 11–15: Welcome to join us when accompanied on a 1:1 basis by a paying adult. Under 16s should also be comfortable with the pace and teaching style being tailored specifically for adults.
- Ages 16–17: Can attend on their own with parental consent.

Classes are held in Carver House, a former cutlery works in the heart of the city that embodies Sheffield’s industrial and crafting heritage. Its history continues to inspire Ed’s Workshop’s makers and craftspeople today.
